There was a lot of speculation in New Delhi political circles after the arrival on Saturday of Congress leader Kamal Nath and his son, Member of Parliament Nakul Nath. They were also reportedly considering switching to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which was further fueled by comments made by Kamal Nath and social media activity by some BJP leaders.

He joined the BJP, but Kamal Nath did not confirm or deny any questions posed by reporters. “The occurrence is not about denying, it’s about getting excited.” In the event of something like this occurring, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister stated that he would inform all media before giving notice.

According to a state leader of the BJP, Kamal Nath is expected to meet with supporters from Chhindwara, Jabalpur, and a few other places in Madhya Pradesh. It will reinforce the idea of a Congress in turmoil at another state where it has been dominant, particularly following the exit of Jyotiraditya Scindia’s close confidants to the BJP in Chambal.

As per a state BJP source, the Congress in MP has always been a blend of three or four lobbies. With the passing of Arjun Singh, Digvijaya Singh’s Hindutva comments have caused him to be discredited among common Hindus. Meanwhile, Scindia is already a part of the BJP, and as per his statement, Kamal Nath’s departure will leave the Congress without a regional anchor in MP, which will further create problems for the BJP.

Digvijaya Singh, seasoned Congress leader and MP for Rajya Sabha, attempted to downplay the reports by stating that he had spoken to Nath on Friday night while in Chhindwara.

“I had a chat with Kamal Nath last night while he was in Chhindwara…Kamal Nath is back home.” He can be found in Chhindwara. The individual who started his political career in the Nehru-Gandhi household stood together during a time when Indira Gandhi was being detained by the Janata Party and the central government. How do you anticipate the departure of Kamal Nath from Sonia Gandhi and Indira Gandhi’s families? It’s not something you should expect, as Singh told reporters.

According to Congress, Kamal Nath is responsible for the fall of Parliament Government.

The sources added that Nath was “moving backwards” to satisfy him. Also, they held Kamal Nath and his “resilience” accountable for the downfall of the Madhya Pradesh government. According to sources, Nath declined to collaborate with anyone sent from Delhi.

“The senior leader, JP Agarwal, was dismissed as he didn’t want him to be in charge and refused to cooperate with Kamal Nath.” The sources revealed that while Randeep Surjewala was given the assignment, Kamal Nath’s involvement in distributing tickets and campaigning during Assembly elections was limited to that.

Jitendra Singh, who is in charge of the All India Congress Committee in Madhya Pradesh, claimed that Kamal Nath would not leave his position with the Congress party and join another party.

“The way Nash has been working in the organization since Sanjay Gandhi’s era, along with his long-standing relationship with Congress,” Jitendra Singh assured. He also emphasized that Nath would not join any political party.

Having been born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on November 18, 1946, Kamal Nath has held several ministerial positions in the Union Council of Ministers and has also served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on two occasions.

A commerce graduate from St Xavier’s College in Kolkata, Kamal Nath joined the Indian Youth Congress and graduated by 1968. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Chhindwara constituency in Madhya Pradesh on nine occasions.

Having worked with three generations of the Nehru-Gandhi family, Kamal Nath is considered one of the party’s tallest members. Those connections trace back to his time spent at the Doon School in Dehradun with Sanjay Gandhi, who was also the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s son. It has been reported that he was granted the Chhindwara seat in Madhya Pradesh during the 1980 Lok Sabha elections as a reward for his friendship with Sanjay. Earlier, Indira Gandhi had famously labeled Kamal Nath as her “third son.” In the 1980s, during election campaigns in Chhindwara, an election slogan titled “Indira ke do haath, Sanjay Gandhi aur Kamal Nath” was popular among old timers.
