New Abilities And Possible Rework For Overwatch 2 With The Addition Of  Reaper Abilities

A reworking of Reaper, one of the original Overwatch heroes featured at the launch event of the FPS game’s prequel is on the cards. If Overwatch 2 implements these changes, his Shadow Step and Wraith Form will be modified in addition to a new ability added by the player.

Among the most well-known characters in Overwatch, Reaper was one of the first heroes to be created for the original game, alongside Tracer and Widowmaker. Reaper has been relatively unchanged since the launch of the first game over seven years ago, with some heroes being completely revamped in Overwatch 2.

In the near future, it appears that Reaper may be subject to a modern tune-up. Alec Dawson, who is the lead hero designer, responded to a question from Darthnick426 during an AMA on Reddit, asking about reworking Reaper. Dawson confirmed that Reaper is on the list, and Overwatch 2 developers have already formulated some concepts for the hero that will provide him with more in-fighting opportunities. The future of Reaper is uncertain, but he may receive updates on his Shadow Step, Wraith Form, and alt-fire abilities, similar to how Sombra and Roadhog got a new skill in their Overwatch 2 reworks.

Fans had already put forward their suggestions for a new ability for Reaper in the thread. An unsuitable attack was proposed, which involves firing both shotguns simultaneously, but these weapons can pierce immune effects in Overwatch 2, such as Lifeweaver’s Life Grip or Kiriko’s Protection Suzu. Another individual recommended that they distribute the grenades from an early idea that he had in his possession, which he still wields on his default Overwatch 2 skin to this day. Despite any potential changes to Reaper in the future, it’s evident that Overwatch 2 intends to preserve his core character.

Overwatch 2 has not yet updated its Reaper character, but it may get updated soon. During a recent Twitch chat with Emongg and Flats, Dawson confirmed that Overwatch 2 was exploring the possibility of reworking Wrecking Ball and Cassidy. While the former is a one-of-a-kind tank that can be challenging to play with, the latter is another original character in an identical boat like Reaper. It’s good to see what happens next with the other characters in Overwatch 2, following their well-received reworks for Sombra and Roadhog.
