We are less than six months away from the T20 World Cup. The USA and West Indies to co-host a prestige white–ball event of the USA and West Indies. The defending champions, England, are currently in poor form following their defeat to West Indies in an away series. The Three Lions are reportedly considering Kieron Pollard, a former West Indies captain, as a consultant coach for the 2024 T20 World Cup, following an embarrassment.

Pollard has a thorough understanding of the West Indies’ conditions. As England prepares for the T20 World Cup, which starts on June 4, the Trinidadian will aid in the pitch assessment. As reported by The Telegraph, he will be playing an equivalent role to former Australian batsman and Melbourne teammate Mike Hussey in the 2022 T20 World Cup triumph.

“Pollard, who is currently 36 years old, has had a remarkable T20 career, winning five Indian Premier League titles and winning the 2012 T20 World Cup while still maintaining his active status. With 637 appearances in T20 matches, he is the most experienced player in the sport and is considered one of the most astute thinkers.

Pollard brings a wealth of experience in dealing with conditions on the West Indies. England will receive assistance from the Trinidadian to assess pitches for the T20 World Cup, which starts on June 4, as reported by The Telegraph in a Saturday article.

According to the report, Pollard, who won the 2012 T20 World Cup with the West Indies, was seen in the England team hotel in Trinidad during the visitors’ final two matches of their five-game T20I series against the hosts, which they lost 3-2.

Pollard was also in the same dressing room as current captain Jos Buttler in Somerset from 2010–11 and at Mumbai Indians from 2016–17 of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

England are recruiting for a player who has played in West Indies and has a strong grasp of local conditions. The Telegraph claims that Pollard’s experience, particularly in T20 cricket is significant to England. A similar strategy was used by the defending champions, who had previously appointed Australian icon Michael Hussey to perform in a similar role during the last year’s T20 World Cup held in Australia. In the ODI World Cup this year, England performed poorly. They are anticipating a better performance in the shorter format in the coming year. Their plan is to bring in Pollard as a coach.
