On Saturday Night, the NBA All-Star Weekend will take place in Indianapolis’ center court as the stars battle it out. Every year on the marquee night, the KIA Skills Challenge, The Starry 3-point Contest, and the AT&T Slam Dunk Contest will be held.

The NBA All-Star weekend in 2024 will feature a new rivalry between Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Sabrina Ionescu from New York Liberty, both known for their impressive three-point shooting skills. Sabrina started the competition with a record-breaking 37th-pointer in the WNBA three point contest during last year’s All-Star weekend. In the aftermath of that game, Ionescu challenged Curry to a three point shootout and in response was granted on an ESPN broadcast. Just before the All-Star weekend, the NBA announced the Steph vs Sabrina three-point contest, but with only two weeks left to go.

During the TNT airing, Ionescu expressed her eagerness to alter the narrative between NBA and WNBA players.

It was amazing,’ said Ionescu. To have this event as the first of its kind, come out here to put on a show while also comprehending what it signifies. Eager to change the narrative, able to do so alongside one of history’s greatest story-tellers.

While wearing a three-point champion belt, Curry expressed his appreciation for the event and Ionescu.

“It was amazing to see her take the lead, given the hype surrounding us, and deliver a performance like no other.” Curry stated that it took all three teams more than five minutes to execute the move. Maybe this is something that we should do more often, but I don’t know if anyone can fill these shoes.

Someone had to lose, even though Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu may have agreed to go head-to-head in an unprecedented 3-point shootout.

With a score of 29 points, Curry ensured he came out on top on All-Star Saturday night.

Ionescu, aged 26, was unwilling to shoot from the women’s 3-point line, which is 20 feet, 6 inches in length. Instead of taking a shot, she leveled the playing field and hit it from an NBA line of 23 feet, 9 inches. Naturally, she did fire a shot at the WNBA ball.

As fans were given the opportunity to vote on who would shoot first, Ionescu was put in charge of starting. She was hot, though, as she had five racks of five balls placed at points around the 3-point line. The racks were divided into four areas, with each rack containing four standard balls and one “money ball” worth two points. The fifth rack was reserved for individual “money balls” that were arranged according to the competitor’s preference.

It’s not me, it’s what sports are all about. Curry declared. Competing, regardless of the format. With her being the winner, I’m in it. We must lay it all down on the line.

Upon walking onto the floor with Curry, whom she has idolized since childhood, Ionescu, who is the current 3-point contest winner in the WNBA said that this moment will be a “sweet moment.”

Ionescu remarked, “He used to be my screensaver.” I used to have wallpapers,’ (right). Every item you could think of that was in my room. Being able to do something next weekend is a dream come true for every child, and this moment is like a pinch-me.
